They brought the bluestone rocks over to our Mary Garden to make it more grotto like.
The highest point of the rock wall is directly behind our Pieta statue, and the wall tapers down on both sides to come around the front.
What we love about our Grotto is the representation of the moment when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, having expired, was taken down from the cross and placed in the arms of His sorrowful mother. The cross is on the middle tree and the two trees beside it represent the crosses of the thieves on either side of Him. On the bottom of the tree on the right, a rock blocks an opening that looks like the Tomb of Jesus.
It is a tableau of the death and burial of Jesus. The great news is, that He didn't stay there long! He rose on the third day, conquering sin and death and is present among us in so many ways.
A few tulips bloom yearly to show new life, but I could do a lot better to keep flowers blooming here though out the summer.
I love what Larry and our youngest son accomplished here and I appreciate their efforts very much.
