Our Homeschool Co Op has been very professionally implemented and the Science lab on Rocks was exceptional.
Each child paid a modest Supplies Fee before we started and individual Lab Kits were purchased for testing and classifying rocks.
Each child tested a rock or two in five different ways and recorded their results.
Streak, Hardness and Magnetism were evaluated.
The rocks had an Acidity Test and some actually bubbled when dropped into vinegar.
Later on, they tried to identify some miscellaneous rocks by testing them and comparing the results to a chart of rock characteristics. I was very impressed with this lab and was grateful for such a hands on opportunity.
