A Relaxing Visit with Good Friends

After Mass on Sunday, while at the beach, we drove one hour to visit our very dear friends, Greg and Eve. This couple knew Larry before I met him 29 years ago! They prepared a fantastic summer meal of delicious sausage, corn on the cob, red potatoes and all the shrimp we could eat.
They cooked and served this wonderful meal on their new, octagonal deck which Greg and his son, Chuck, just built this spring. It is tiered in layers and has this wonderful barstool seating around the edge.Eve used to own and run a restaurant in Texas and these stools came from there. When not in use, she puts shower caps on them to protect them from the rain!

Chuck and Krystal were as friendly and personable as always. We've all known each other for a long time.
Tori and Brandon were both celebrating birthdays this week-end so Eve had a  very nice chocolate cake made for them. The frosting was excellent!
After dinner, we visited their birds, which they have had for many years.
This is the peahen,
and this is one of the peacocks that were hatched from our peafowl! Our peafowl had five live peachicks one summer and Greg and Eve drove up to get three of them.
There are two males here. Note that the peacock up on the table has some white on his neck. His variety  is what is called "Pied", as is the female.I hope that she is able to hatch some eggs this summer.
The chickens were a big hit with the younger ones who were allowed to feed them cracked corn.

The guys played some horseshoes.
Sam and John got into some metal detecting,
The ladies toured the rose garden, which was in full bloom. We inhaled lovely fragrances!
Larry and Greg played and sang as is their custom and Sam was able to play Simple Man on his late Uncle Tommy's guitar. Greg was in the band with Larry and Tommy and knew him well.
G-mania had some water fun. Those are rain barrels in the background which collect the water from the downspout. All three are connected by hoses which Greg and Eve put together.

Completely outdoing herself, Eve had a craft for the girls to do!!!! On a previous trip to their home, Eve taught the girls how to make scented soaps which she was making and selling in a shop at the time. Now she is enjoying designing and creating jewelery. She taught the gals how to make necklaces and they had a great time.
It was a marvelous visit and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. Lifelong friends are a great gift from God and we are very grateful for them.
